Open letter on the condition of Iranian women addressed to UNSG

Open letter to UNSG

More than 300 political and civil activists signed an open letter to the United Nations Secretary-General asking the Secretary General to call for an independent investigation in the whereabouts of student activist Saeed Zeinali who disappeared 16 years ago.
During the student protests at that time Zeinaly was arrested by plainclothes security agents on July 14, 1999 at his home before the very eyes of his family members. However, there is no information of his whereabouts to this day.
Saeed’s mother has been going to all judiciary institutions for 16 years looking to find her son, yet she has received no answers. The last time Saeed telephoned his family was in September 1999, meaning only two months after his arrest.
A letter signed by more than 300 political and civil activists reads in part the Zeinali family has been threatened and arrested many times during these 16 years, and even some members thrown behind bars. The last incident of such measures took place when the families of political prisoners held rallies outside Tehran’s Evin Prison and prison guards took violent measures against Saeed’s old father.
This letter also refers to another case of an individual by the name of Fereshte Alizadeh who disappeared and her mother has been searching for her for years. Without finding a trace for years her mother passed away in grief of this pain.
This letter has also been transcript to Dr. Ahmed Shaheed, the U.N. Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Iran, and the Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances of the U.N. Human Rights Council.
