Iran: Coronavirus Death Toll in 458 Cities Exceeds 126,300

Deputy Health Minister: The actual number of deaths is twice the official figure

  • Spokesperson of the Health Ministry: In the fourth week of October, the number of red cities has increased from 187 to 215. The number of infected and deaths has increased. The average hospitalization has risen to 15.8 people per 100,000, the highest death rate in Qom Provinces, Central Province, Ilam, West Azerbaijan, Alborz, and East Azerbaijan. It is reported that Qom, Central Province, and Ilam are by far in a worrying situation. (IRNA, October 18, 2020)
  • Iraj Harirchi, regime’s Deputy Health Minister: In Tehran Province, daily hospitalization is 1.5 to 2 times more than discharge. Five thousand three hundred inpatients and 1,200 in ICU are worrisome. (ISNA, October 17, 2020)
  • Chairman of Tehran’s City Council: Coronavirus is spreading like a storm. To overcome the third wave of the outbreak, all activities in Tehran and other large cities must be locked down for at least two weeks. (IRNA, October 18, 2020)
  • Chairman of the Health Committee of Tehran’s City Council: The death toll from Coronavirus in Tehran is 14,931 people. (Hamshahri daily, October 18, 2020)
  • Masoud Mardani, member of the National Coronavirus Combat Taskforce (NCCT): Coronavirus condition is deplorable, and there are no more empty beds. If this situation continues, the virus will get out of control. (IRNA, October 18, 2020)
  • Nader Tavakoli, deputy head of NCCT in Tehran: Although the quarantine in Tehran is very difficult, it seems that it could control the disease. (IRNA, October 18, 2020)

The number of victims in Tehran is 30,311, Khorasan Razavi 9,465, Isfahan 6,599, Mazandaran 5,702, East Azerbaijan 4,478, West Azerbaijan 3,558, Alborz 3,468, Hamedan 3,343, Fars 3,311, Kermanshah 2,763, Kurdistan 2,251, North Khorasan 2,154, Kerman 1,948, Yazd 1,801, Hormozgan 1,630, Ardabil 1,448, Ilam 1,039, Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari 962, and Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad 879.
