Less than a week ago, in an interview in a Serbian TV, a Turkish gunman who shot the pope John Paul claimed in a book he has written titled 'They promised me Paradise' that he was ordered to assassinate Pope John Paul II by the late Ayatollah Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Mehmet Ali Agca says he told John Paul of the Iranian connection when the Pope visited him in prison inTurkey.
Agca shot and wounded John Paul in May 1981 in St. Peter’s Square. He was released from prison in 2010.
The Iranian regime embassy in Belgrade on Thursday denied the claim according to AP.
